Food Cost (GROWTH / PRO)

The food cost module calculates the ingredient cost per dish based on your invoice data. This gives you a clear picture of your margins and helps with pricing decisions.

How It Works

  1. ChinaYung extracts prices from your uploaded invoices.
  2. Each ingredient’s cost per unit is stored and kept up to date.
  3. When you assign ingredients to a dish with quantities, the system calculates the total ingredient cost per serving.
  4. The food cost is displayed in the dish detail view and in a dedicated overview page.

What You See

  • Cost per serving for each dish.
  • Cost breakdown by ingredient.
  • Estimated prices where invoice data is not yet available (marked as estimates).
Tip: Upload invoices regularly to keep your cost data current. Prices fluctuate, and fresh data means more accurate margins.

Chatbot Management (GROWTH / PRO)

The ChinaYung chatbot lets your guests ask questions about your menu — allergens, ingredients, recommendations — and get instant, accurate answers based on your actual dish data.

Configuration Options

  • Greeting message — Customize what the chatbot says when a guest opens it.
  • Quick-reply buttons — Define common questions that appear as clickable buttons.
  • Language — The chatbot responds in the language of the menu being viewed.
  • Rate limiting — Control how many messages a guest can send per session.

Where the Chatbot Appears

The chatbot is embedded on your public menu page as a floating icon. Guests can open it to ask questions without leaving the menu.

Tip: The chatbot draws its answers from your ingredient database and dish descriptions. The more complete your data, the better the chatbot performs.

Editing Chatbot Knowledge (Tab „Wissen“)

In the Chatbot Admin, you will find the Wissen (Knowledge) tab. Here you control what the chatbot knows about your restaurant — organized in five sections:

SectionWhat to includeExample
Our RestaurantHistory, philosophy, team„Since 1998, we serve authentic Cantonese cuisine…“
Our KitchenPreparation, ingredient sourcing„We exclusively use fresh ingredients from the wholesale market…“
RecommendationsTips for first-time visitors„Our Peking Duck requires 45 min. pre-order…“
Good to KnowParking, payment, reservations„Free parking available in the back…“
General Cuisine KnowledgeGeneral knowledge about your cuisine„What is Dim Sum?“, „What is Wok Hei?“, regional cuisines

How to edit knowledge:

  1. Select the desired section (e.g., „General Cuisine Knowledge“)
  2. Select the language (DE, EN, or Chinese)
  3. Edit the text directly in the text field
  4. Click Save
  5. Optional: Click Translate (AI) — missing languages are generated automatically
  6. Click Rebuild Universe — the chatbot immediately uses the updated knowledge

When should you edit the knowledge?

  • When the chatbot gives a wrong answer — correct the relevant text
  • When information changes (new opening hours, new concept)
  • When guests frequently ask questions that the chatbot cannot answer
Tip: General cuisine knowledge is generated automatically, but you can adjust it at any time. Your edits always take priority over auto-generated text.

Knowledge vs. Chef Notes vs. FAQ

FeatureWhere to editEffect
Knowledge (Tab „Wissen“)Chatbot AdminGeneral background knowledge — the chatbot uses it for free-form answers
Chef NotesDish Management, per dishSpecific info about a dish — overrides general knowledge for that dish
FAQChatbot Admin, Tab „FAQ“Fixed question-answer pairs — delivered instantly, without AI

AI Configuration (PRO)

On the PRO plan, you can configure which AI provider ChinaYung uses for generating descriptions, translations, and Oracle analysis.

Available Options

  • Default (ChinaYung-managed) — ChinaYung selects the best provider based on your region and the task at hand. GDPR-compliant providers are used for EU customers.
  • Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) — Use your own API key from a supported provider. This gives you full control over costs and provider choice.

Configurable Features

The AI configuration applies to up to 8 features individually:

  • Dish description generation.
  • Menu translation.
  • Recipe Oracle analysis.
  • Chatbot responses.
  • Invoice OCR processing.
  • And others.

You can mix providers — for example, use ChinaYung’s default for the chatbot but your own key for description generation.

Tip: BYOK is designed for restaurants with specific data residency requirements or existing AI provider agreements. Most users are well served by the default configuration.

General Settings

The general settings page covers your account and restaurant profile.

Upgrading

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription.
  2. Click Change Plan.
  3. Select the plan you want to upgrade to.
  4. Complete the payment process via Stripe.
  5. New features are available immediately after payment confirmation.

Downgrading

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription.
  2. Click Change Plan.
  3. Select the lower plan.
  4. The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

What Happens to Your Data

When you downgrade, your data is never deleted. For example:

  • If you downgrade from PRO to GROWTH, your Chinese translations remain stored but are no longer displayed on the public menu.
  • If you downgrade from GROWTH to FREE and have more than 30 dishes, all dishes remain in the system but only the first 30 are included in the published menu.
Tip: You can upgrade and downgrade at any time. There are no long-term contracts or cancellation fees.
